Matthieu Louis studies the neurology of sensory systems, particularly olfaction and navigation. He seeks to map and characterize the neural circuits that convert olfactory information into directional cues. The Louis lab borrows tools and concepts from physics to model perception and decision making. He believes that learning about perceptual decision-making in the simple brains of fruit flies can inform our understanding of similar processes in more complex organisms.
