Andy Howell leads the supernova group at the Las Cumbres Observatory and is an adjunct professor in the Department of Physics at UC Santa Barbara. Most of his research focuses on supernovae — how they happen, why, and what they can tell us about the universe.

Howell serves as the principal investigator of the Global Supernova Project and appears on and hosts radio and television shows about science.
