Mentorship opportunity: UCSB Research Mentorship Program (RMP)
RMP is a highly selective and competitive six-week summer program that engages qualified, talented high school students from all over the world in interdisciplinary, hands-on, university-level research. We are seeking mentors who can guide students through a research project in STEM, humanities, social sciences or education.
RMP is offered during Summer Session A (June 15 – July 31, 2026)
Dates & Details
- Project Pitches: scheduled on June 15 – June 17, 2026
- Research Mentorship: June 22 – July 28, 2026
- Research Symposium: July 29 – July 31, 2026
- Mentor Stipend: $1,300 per project per student
Prospective Mentors may submit up to 2 projects (up to 2 students per project for a compensation of up to $5,200).
The proposed project must have a hands-on component (lab, field, computational, theory, archival, primary source analysis, etc.).
RMP students are highly qualified and expect to work independently; however, Mentors must meet mentees regularly to guide students through the project.
Please note:
- Our students are well-prepared — they have taken advanced high school and college courses, and have extensive programming, lab and primary source analysis experience.
- Graduate students may be employed up to 100% over the summer.
- The deadline to submit project proposals is June 1, 2026. However, space is limited! Mentor applications are accepted and approved on a rolling basis.
