Commencement parking and traffic impacts

Transportation & Parking Services would like to update you about the campus impacts related to Commencement ceremonies and celebrations. Traffic and parking will be heavily impacted from Thursday, June 11, through Sunday, June 14. Transportation & Parking Services staff members, as well as the UC Police Department, will be on-site to direct traffic. Please obey all traffic signs and directions from these officials.

To accommodate the large volume of vehicles attending multiple ceremonies and celebrations, a detailed traffic plan has been established for the safest and most orderly ingress and egress from the campus.

During periods of time each day, parking lots will be closed or reserved while ceremony traffic is directed to the appropriate lots. Thousands of vehicles will be traversing the campus, so heavy traffic delays are expected.

Staff members participating and volunteering in the ceremonies have been requested to park in lots 1, 4, 5, 6, 8, & 9 whenever possible.

Due to enhanced security and screening measures, Parking Lot 23 will be used for pedestrian line management and ticket screening.

Pedestrian and vehicle access to the Commencement Green and surrounding lots will be restricted for safety and set-up beginning Wednesday, May 27. The service lots adjacent to the Club & Guest House, including Hatlen Theatre, and Lower Arts, will be closed beginning Monday, June 8.  Please obey all closure signage.

The bike path between Parking Lot 23 and the Student Resource Building will be closed and diverted from June 8 through June 14.

Additional bike path closures around the event site, including sections of the Pardall Road corridor bike path through the center of campus, will be diverted to alternate routes between June 11 and June 14 during Commencement.

Lot 23 will be closed beginning Friday, June 5 at 5 p.m. This closure is required for extensive event set-up and to ensure safety and security for the campus community. A small portion of the parking lot will remain open exclusively for student Move-Out operations and access to the Child Care Center. This area will be monitored by the UC Police Department and Staff from Transportation & Parking Services.

Parking lot 27 will also be closed at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10. The lot will be reserved for ADA parking for Commencement Ceremonies, June 11 through June 14.

Parking Lot 24 (Carrillo Dining Commons) will be closed and reserved beginning at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10. Staff are required to park in Structure 22 during this time. Only Service Vehicles needing access to Carrillo Dining Commons and Manzanita Village are authorized during the closure.

On Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14, there will be designated Rideshare (Uber/Lyft) pick-up and drop-off areas on the main campus to assist with traffic flow. Specific areas of lots 3, 11, 12, and 25 will be reserved for this purpose. No parking will be allowed in these marked Rideshare areas.
