Debra joined UC Santa Barbara's Office of Public Affairs & Communications as associate editorial director in 2022. She completed her doctoral studies in Latin American literature at UC Santa Barbara before pursuing a career in writing and publishing. She is also the editor and co-founder of Lum Art, a contemporary art magazine for California’s Central Coast, a 2023 Individual Artist Fellow (Established) for the Central California region, and serves on the board of trustees for the Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara.
