Bridging divided views to strengthen communities

Despite the elevated and often hateful discourse common to our national conversations on controversial topics, our differences aren’t as far apart as you would think. In her new book, Facing the Fracture, Tania Israel, a professor in the Department of Counseling, Clinical & School Psychology, takes a closer look at how we got here and what we can do to successfully navigate the challenges of living in a divided nation. In UCSB's latest installation of it's award-winning video series Research in 60, we get the gist in under a minute.

“As a counseling psychologist who does interventions, I am not as much about investigating the problem as I am about investigating solutions,” said Israel, “I thought, ‘Is there something I can do to help?’”
