UC Santa Barbara’s largest Commencement ceremonies — the Graduate Division, all College of Letters & Science, and College of Engineering ceremonies, scheduled for June 14-16 — have been returned to the traditional Commencement Green. The ceremonies, seven of nine altogether, had previously been relocated to the RecCen Fields to ensure continuity and enhance safety. In response to feedback from the campus community, and to accommodate additional guests, the decision was made to return the events to the original venue.
The Bren School and College of Creative Studies ceremonies will remain in their original venues and tickets will not be necessary.
Tickets will still be required for the ceremonies on Commencement Green. However, each ticket now admits two guests, allowing for a total of 12 guests per student. Each pair of guests entering on a single ticket must arrive together for admission.
The initial change in venue — and the addition of ticketing — was undertaken to help ensure the continuity of the university’s multiple ceremonies and to enhance safety procedures. Determined to create a safe and accessible ceremony that provides all students the opportunity to cross the stage and be recognized, further review and revision of safety procedures, and the implementation of additional safety protocols, preceded the return to Commencement Green.
Approximately 6,500 undergraduates will be awarded degrees during commencement weekend. The Graduate Division expects 472 participants.
