The economy in India has experienced accelerated growth in recent years with several elements –– the manufacturing sector, service- producing industries, physical capital accumulation, and literacy –– playing key roles.
At a UCSB Affiliates Economics Forum on Wednesday, April 23, Rajnish Mehra, a professor of finance at UC Santa Barbara, will take a critical look at India's economic boom in a talk is titled "Sources of Growth in the Economy of India."
The lecture begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Chase Palm Park Recreation Center, 236 E. Cabrillo Blvd. Admission is $8 for UCSB Affiliates or Chancellor's Council members and $10 for all others. Advance registration is recommended by calling the UCSB Office of Community Relations at 893-4388.
An authority on asset pricing, valuation, and risk management, Mehra is also a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research. He has advised a leading hedge fund group on quantitative strategies and has been a consultant to the International Monetary Fund and the Fixed Income Arbitrage Group of Salomon Smith Barney. He has served as an expert witness on initial public offering valuations and has received several grants from the National Science Foundation to fund his research.
Mehra has undergraduate and graduate degrees in electrical engineering, computer science, industrial administration, and finance. Before joining the faculty at UCSB, he taught at the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business, the Sloan School of Management at MIT, and the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University.
