Bringing the fun, and the food, Staff Assembly hosts appreciation event

It was another bang-up “burrito day.”

To commemorate National Employee Appreciation Day, staff from across campus gathered at Cheadle Plaza to mingle, play a few games, peruse a “Staff Shoutout” board and, of course, to grub free burritos from Campus Catering.

Also: photo ops with Storkie.

First held in 2022, the event has become an annual favorite of staff, put on by Staff Assembly with support from Chancellor Yang and the Chancellor’s Staff Advisory Committee. Prizes for a drawing, open to anyone who visited every staff group table, were provided by UCSB Arts & Lectures and the Campus Store.

“This event has been coined ‘burrito day,’ but it’s an opportunity for staff groups to table and introduce themselves and meet other staff, and for staff to celebrate together,” said Lisa Blanco, business officer in the sociology department and Staff Assembly member. Blanco co-chaired the event with Kelly Wood, employee engagement programs manager based in Human Resources.

“Staff support staff. It’s important that we appreciate each other.”
