Celebrations of Academic Success

UCSB’s Early Academic Outreach Program to host UC Success Nights honoring regional high school seniors

The Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP) at UC Santa Barbara will hold a series of UC Success Nights April 21-30 to celebrate the academic success of UCSB’s EAOP partnership schools seniors who have been admitted to any campus in the UC system.

UC-admitted seniors and their families from Ernest Righetti, Pioneer Valley, Santa Maria, Fillmore, South, Rio Mesa and Carpinteria high schools are invited to attend.

The event includes an awards presentation; recognition by representatives from the offices of Congresswomen Lois Capps and Julia Brownley, State Senators Hannah-Beth Jackson and Jean Fuller, and State Assemblymen Rudy Salas and Das Williams, among others; and student keynote addresses in English and Spanish. Attendees also will have the opportunity to meet UCSB faculty and staff members, administrators, alumni and current undergraduate students.

“We are in the fourteenth year of hosting UC Success Nights as part of our efforts to celebrate the academic achievements and college admissions of these outstanding young scholars,” said Britt Ortiz, EAOP director. “Many of these students are the first generation in their family to attend college, much less to be admitted into one of the most prestigious and selective university systems in the country and world. This is quite an accomplishment for any high school student, much less those who are first in their in family to enroll in higher education. We are so proud of these future leaders.”

The first of five UC Success Night events will take place on Tuesday, April 21, at 6 p.m. at the Santa Maria Veteran’s Memorial Hall, 500 N. Pine St. It will be followed by a second event on Wednesday, April 22, at 6 p.m. for Fillmore High School students, at El Pescador Restaurant, 1305 W. Ventura St. & Highway 126 in Fillmore.

The event honoring students at South High School will take place on Thursday, April 23, at 6 p.m. at South High School library, 1101 Planz Road, Bakersfield. Rio Mesa High School students and their families are invited to attend the event on Tuesday, April 28, at 6 p.m. at the Rio Mesa High School cafeteria, 545 Central Ave. The final event will take place on April 30 at 6 p.m. in Carpinteria High School’s library, 4810 Foothill Ave., Carpinteria.
