Galician Bagpiper Carlos Núñez to Visit UCSB

Musician Carlos Núñez will bring his gaita –– traditional Galician bagpipe –– to UC Santa Barbara on Monday, October 22, for an informal presentation and question-and-answer session.

Sponsored by UCSB's Department of Spanish and Portuguese, the event will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Mosher Alumni House. It is free and open to the public.

A musician from Galicia, in northwestern Spain, Núñez is one of the world's foremost Celtic artists. Twice nominated for Latin Grammy Awards, Núñez has sold over a million albums worldwide. He has been dubbed "The Seventh Chieftain," in recognition of his musical and personal connection to the traditional Irish band, The Chieftains.

Núñez, who began playing the bagpipe at 8 years of age, is currently touring North America to promote his album, "Discover," a two-disc set that features guest artists Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, The Chieftains, Ry Cooder, Los Lobos, Sinead O'Connor, and members of the Buena Vista Social Club, among others.
