UC SANTA BARBARA TO HOST GLOBAL ENERGY SUMMIT
The Technology Management Program at UC Santa Barbara's College of Engineering will bring together entrepreneurs, investors, technologists and senior policymakers from California as well as Canada and China at its Third Annual Emerging Energy Technologies Summit February 8 and 9 in Corwin Pavilion on the UCSB campus.
As demand for efficient and clean energy rises around the world, California's technology, and its economic and political capital, are helping to effect world change. At the upcoming summit, representatives from CA Energy Commission, PG&E, and Sempra Energy will discuss funding opportunities, while several international venture capitalists – American River Ventures, Cycad Group, NGEN Partners, and US-China Capital Partners – will share investment criteria and information on what types of energy solutions they are funding and why.
China is a large market driver of energy costs, and its response to such demands is ripe with opportunity for North American firms to address critical global problems and accelerate the next wave in technology innovation.
Presenters to address this topic at the summit will include Cambridge Energy Research Associates,
Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd., and UCSB's Partnership (China-US) for International Research and Education.
British Columbia, long bridged to the Pacific Rim, works across borders creating innovative public and private partnerships to stimulate economic growth and energy solutions.
British Columbia energy technology business leaders will speak at the summit, along with representatives from the Canada-California Strategic Innovation Partnership Initiative, British Columbia Premier's Technology Council and Climate Action Team, and BC Hydro.
"This annual energy summit has proven to be an important venue for identification of early stage technologies, funding opportunities and potential deal generation between researchers, entrepreneurs and investors, complemented by insights from policymakers," said Gary Hansen, Associate Dean, Technology Management Program in UCSB's College of Engineering.
The registration fee for the conference is $200 until February 1 and $275 after that. Complete information on the Energy Summit is available at: http://www.c2c.ucsb.edu/summit2008/.

About the Technology Management Program at UC Santa Barbara
The Technology Management Program (TMP) in the College of Engineering at UC Santa Barbara offers graduate and undergraduate students cutting edge comprehensive curriculum in management, leadership, entrepreneurship, new product development, marketing and more, taught by world-class scholars, business leaders and entrepreneurs. The program includes networking opportunities with top business executives, the Leaders in Innovation Lecture Series, and a New Venture Competition that has been a launch pad for student enterprises.
A primary result of energy summit exchange and discourse will be the creation of a new curriculum for one of TMP's developing Technology Tracks which include IT/Telecom, Life Sciences/Biotech, and Energy/Sustainability.
For more information about the Tech Tracks, contact Dr. Anne Deane Berman at adeaneberman@engineering.ucsb.edu.
