Isla Vista Town Hall Meeting to Examine Housing, Safety Issues for Current and Future Residents
Housing and safety in Isla Vista will be the main topics to be discussed at an Isla Vista Town Hall meeting scheduled for Monday, Feb. 26, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Embarcadero Hall, 935 Embarcadero del Norte, Isla Vista. The theme of the program is "Living Strong in Isla Vista."
Sponsors of the event include UC Santa Barbara's Isla Vista Commission, the UCSB Community Housing Office, Isla Vista Community Relations Committee, and the Isla Vista Tenants Union.
The meeting's program is designed to provide current and prospective residents of Isla Vista with up-to-date housing information and essential safety tips. Taking part in the program will be a panel of experts, including representatives from the Associated Students Legal Services, the Isla Vista Tenants Union, UCSB's Community Housing Office, the Isla Vista Foot Patrol, and BDC Property Management Company.
In addition, the event will feature information tables staffed by representatives of Santa Barbara County's Alternative Transportation Department, the Sheriff's Department, UCSB Police, Isla Vista Food Co-op, UCSB Community Housing Office, and Isla Vista property management companies.
Organizers say the event is an opportunity for UCSB and Santa Barbara City College students to learn about rental opportunities and the housing and community resources that will help them become successful renters and community members in Isla Vista.
Among prizes to be awarded in a free raffle are gift certificates from the UCSB Bookstore, a gift basket from the Isla Vista Food Co-op, and free videotape services for renters. The food co-op will also offer free refreshments.
