UC Regents to Visit Santa Barbara Campus on June 9

The University of California Regents will visit UC Santa Barbara on Friday, June 9, to learn about key issues facing the campus, progress on facilities, and highlights of new research and instructional programs.

The Regents make three informational visits annually to different campuses in the UC system. Such visits are in addition to the six regularly scheduled business and policy meetings that the Regents conduct each year. The Regents will conduct no official university business during the campus visit.

While at UC Santa Barbara, the Regents will be briefed on the campus's academic plan and other issues. They also will take a tour of the campus and visit various facilities, including the California NanoSystems Institute, the Marine Sciences Building, the Life Sciences and Technology Building, and Bren Hall. The campus tour will also include stops at several facilities currently under construction.

In addition, special presentations will be made to the Regents on a representative sampling of innovative and interdisciplinary UCSB education, research, and academic-preparation programs.

The formal visit will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a 20-minute public comment period in Room 1001 of the Engineering Sciences Building. The purpose of the session is to receive comments pertaining to UC-related matters or items on the day's agenda. The agenda can be found at: www.universityofcalifornia.edu/regents/regmeet/may06/june9.pdf

Individuals wishing to speak at the comment session may sign up to do so at the meeting. However, they also are encouraged to inform the Regents of their intent to do so in advance by calling (510) 987-9220, especially if any accommodation must be made for a disability.
