The UCSB Affiliates recently awarded a total of $50,000 in scholarships and fellowships to 21 students at the university.
Known primarily for its public lectures and other outreach activities, the UCSB Affiliates is UC Santa Barbara's largest community support group. At the group's recent annual Scholarship and Fellowship Awards Ceremony, Chancellor Henry Yang welcomed the award recipients and guests and congratulated the UCSB Affiliates for fund-raising activities that both encourage and recognize student merit.
Marjorie Shipp, president of the Affiliates board, presented undergraduate awards to: Jose Caro (the Yvonne Jordan Scholarship to an undergraduate studying in France), Alisha Dahlstrom (the Pearl Chase Scholarship to an undergraduate in Environmental Studies), and Dusty Klass (the Edward C. Truman Scholarship to an undergraduate Religious Studies student).
Dan Cross, a member of the Affiliates board, presented the undergraduate Pharmacology Award to Nick Robertson for his research on the California mussel.
The Affiliates continued the group's tradition of awarding scholarships to students transferring from Santa Barbara City College to UCSB.
Recipients this year are Leslie Brewster, Keira Harrison, Rea King, Lea, Tiffany McWilliams and Delbart Poindexter.
Elizabeth Cunningham received the Raymond K. Myerson Family Trust Graduate Fellowship in Economics, while Erin Tolhurst was honored with the Excellence in Neuroscience Research Award.
