UCSB Affiliates Award $46,000 in Scholarships and Fellowships

The UCSB Affiliates awarded $46,000 to 19 students at its annual Scholarship and Fellowship Awards Ceremony this month. UCSB Chancellor Henry Yang welcomed recipients and guests and congratulated the Affiliates for its fund-raising activities that both encourage and recognize student merit.

Affiliates Board President Stanley Eigner and Vice President Marjorie Shipp presented undergraduate awards.

Jodie Austin won the Yvonne Jordan Scholarship, which goes annually to an undergraduate studying in France. Alisha Dahlstrom received the Pearl Chase Scholarship, given to students of environmental studies. The Edward C. Truman Scholarship in religious studies went to Gail Swedrow.

Affiliates Board member Tom Harriman presented the undergraduate Pharmacology Award to Krystal Sandza.

The Affiliates continued its tradition of scholarships to students transferring from Santa Barbara City College to UCSB.

Recipients this year were Blanca Avila, Alexandra Forbes, Christina Franquet, Quyen Le, Philip Tunger, and Ismael Ulloa.

Graduate awards this year included the General Dynamics Land Systems Graduate Fellowship, presented by Rod Peterson, GDLS director of engineering, to Benjamin Lee.

Benjamin Hansen received the Raymond K. Myerson Family Trust Graduate Fellowship in Economics, while Sherry Hikita was honored with the Excellence in Neuroscience Research Award.

Six Graduate Dissertation Fellowships were presented by Charles Li, dean of the Graduate Division, to Brendon Larson, Eric Dunham, Masaru Yoshioka, Eric Boyle, Benjamin Ruttenberg, and Sean Mark Watts.
