UCSB Offers Students Summer Session Bargains at Off-Campus Classrooms in Santa Maria, Ventura, and San Fernando Valley

Students wishing to continue to work on their college degrees while home for the summer can take advantage of special reduced prices if they live close to UC Santa Barbara off-campus classrooms in Santa Maria, Ventura, or the San Fernando Valley.

The classes – mostly general education selections – are offered to help current UCSB students continue to progress toward graduation while spending a quarter at home.

But students from other universities, as well as high school students seeking to get a head start on college, and interested community members also are invited to enroll.

Most of UCSB's summer courses are offered in two six-week sessions.

In the first six-week session, which runs from June 23 to Aug. 1, courses are offered at all off-campus locations. In the second six-week session (Aug. 4 to Sept. 12), off-campus courses will be offered at the Ventura site only.

The cost is $69 per unit, $34 less than the $103 per unit paid by on-campus summer-session students.

UCSB students and students from other UC campuses have the added bonus of a 12-unit cap on their fees; those taking 13 units or more only pay for 12.

In-person instructors will teach some off-campus classes. Others will be conducted via interactive video broadcast.

Robert Mann, associate director of UCSB Summer Sessions, said arrangements are also being made for in-person or interactive video broadcast office hours with instructors.

For registration information and a list of classes offered at the off-campus sites, visit the UCSB Summer Sessions Web site at www.summer.ucsb.edu.

Santa Maria classes will be held at the UCSB Santa Maria Center at Allan Hancock College. Ventura classes convene in the UCSB Ventura Center, 3585 Maple St., Suite 112. Birmingham High School at 17000 Haynes St. in Lake Balboa will host UCSB's San Fernando Valley classes.

UCSB Summer Sessions will also offer classes at the UCDC site in Washington, D.C.
