Enhance sustainability in your lab with LabRATS

Would you like to explore new ways to reduce the environmental impact of your lab? LabRATS, a UCSB Sustainability program, offers a succinct assessment process called LabSYNC.

Our certification process is designed to help campus labs assess and document their sustainable laboratory practices, gain recognition for their efforts, and identify growth opportunities. This process not only enhances environmental stewardship but also has the potential to increase efficiency and reduce monetary costs.

Here’s how it works:

  • Collaborative approach: We send a survey to the lab manager and employees and conduct an interview. If needed, we may also tour the facility and collect energy use data.
  • Quick and Efficient: The assessment is planned to have a very limited time impact on your staff, as it will take less than one hour to collect the initial data.
  • Impactful Insights: You’ll receive tailored recommendations on how to make your lab more sustainable, along with information about equipment grants and other helpful resources.

We acknowledge the importance of your work, and the assessment would not disrupt your research. We’re happy to work around your busy schedule to make this collaboration as seamless as possible.
